Company Overview

At Quantum Biosciences (QBS), we are building the next generation of deep-tech diagnostic tools. Backed by the Government of India's National Quantum Mission, we are shifting the focus of clinical testing from lagging indicators of organ failure to early, real-time detection of cellular distress.

Our flagship technology, the Quantum Sentinel™, is an in-vitro lab analyzer that applies quantum physics directly to biology. Based in our Bengaluru C-CAMP lab, our multidisciplinary team brings this platform to life by integrating quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, and machine learning to solve complex diagnostic challenges.

Position Summary

We are looking for a highly adaptable Quantum Sensing Engineer / Research Scientist to help build the physical hardware for our benchtop analyzer prototype. As an early-stage startup, we need a scrappy, hands-on engineer who is ready to roll up their sleeves and dive into everything from component sourcing to physical assembly.

While your foundation should be in precision optics and quantum physics, flexibility is key. You won't be working in a silo—you will collaborate closely with our biological experimental group, as well as our machine learning and simulation teams. Your primary focus will be translating technical requirements into a stable, low-noise platform where biological samples can smoothly interface with our quantum sensors.

CORE FOCUS

What You Will Do

Optics & Assembly

Hardware Assembly & Optimization

Build and refine the core physical subsystems of our benchtop analyzer. You will be hands-on with precision optics (lasers, filters, single-photon detectors), and sub-micron positioning components.

Instrumentation & Control

System Automation & Data Acquisition

Write the scripts and firmware necessary to automate our scanning cycles across variable magnetic fields, ensuring the system captures clean, synchronized time-series data.

Signal Processing & Validation

Calibration & Noise Reduction

Implement methods to filter out background hardware noise to isolate the true biological signal. You will collaborate constantly with our biological lab and software simulation teams to validate the hardware against real-world biological samples.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

What You Bring to the Team

Background

Academic & Scientific Foundation

Ph.D. in Experimental Quantum Physics, Applied Optics, Electrical Engineering, or a highly related field.

Hands-on Experience

Quantum Bench & Spin Defect Systems

Proven track record of building alignment setups on active quantum optics benches or advanced microscopy systems or working directly with solid-state spin defects (such as NV centers in diamond).

Technical Skills

RF / Microwaves & Lab Automation

Comfortable handling RF/microwave electronics and automating hardware and data acquisition using Python, C/C++, or LabVIEW.

Mindset

First-Principles & Startup Agility

You approach hardware from first principles, thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, and are eager to tackle cross-disciplinary challenges outside of your core expertise.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience integrating microfluidic or optofluidic chips.
  • A conceptual grasp of quantum relaxometry or open quantum system dynamics.
  • Familiarity with clinical hardware safety protocols (e.g., laser containment, electrical grounding, or thermal dampening).
